weekend scenes :: trip home

i went home for the fourth of july.

the fourth of july is one of my favorite holidays.

i love fireworks. i love being outside. i love america.

my sister, brother in-law, and nephew came home too.

unfortunately, the weather wasn't always cooperative. 

we played by the pool when we got the chance.

i love love LOVE roy orbison.

for those of you that don't know, pretty woman is my theme song.

but i absolutely love blue bayou. 

it reminds me of summer, his voice is just right, and its a great melody.

greg, introduced me to this song over a year ago... its a favorite!

if i could sing, i would suggest greg to do this song and i would do the back up.

i love google. 

it has revolutionized arguments.
no longer do you have a debate about something. you simply say you will "google it." argument solved. google shows both sides of the story and you kind of get to pick.

as crazy as this sounds, i look forward to going to the google homepage everyday to see if they have done something special to the logo. i equate it to going to brusters for ice cream and they have peanut butter puddles; it doesnt always happen but when it does its glorious.

happy birthday to my main man!

today is this handsome devil's 26th birthday!

greg is the best. he's the sweetest, funniest, and smartest guy i know (besides my daddy :) ). greg loves coffee and good music. he's addicted to working out, writes awesome melodies, and his favorite cake is german chocolate. his dream is to live in a shack with a recording studio surrounded by friends (preferably the hippie type)...

(i will have a house in town with running water and air conditioning.)

there was nothing on tv sunday night....

so i made the decision to watch....

HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 3: SENIOR YEAR

yep.

let's just say i havent watched the disney channel in some time.
and...
it was enchanting.

i sent my friend christina a text asking her if it was ok for me to be watching this movie ( you know there are rules to being a teacher, like touching students or buying them alcohol... i didnt want to cross those lines, since these ARE real high school students in the movie ). she relieved me that it was indeed ok for me to watch but not to learn any of the dance sequences (too late).

i then told her i had already rationalized that it was ok for me to have a crush on zac effron... she confirmed it. 

unfortunately, my bed time is 10 and the movie didnt get over until 11 so i have no idea what happened at the prom!! what about gabriella? and sharpei????
so many questions!

another good thing about the disney channel... 

the commercials.

they are so informative. i had no idea demi lavato was so passionate about dance!

im definitely team demi. 

she's so more real than selena gomez.

by the way, selena and nick broke up.

theyre trying to focus on their careers.

tears.

how it came into creation:

greg came to visit and of course i teach all day leaving him to his thoughts. i came home from the school and greg announces that i won't have to get a teaching job because "he's blowing up." he sits down at the computer (me thinking he's showing me an email from a recipient of one of his resumes) and  proceeds to show me this little video. after just talking to a girl at school about our recent grad boyfriends without jobs... i was thinking about jobs. my disappointment didn't lag. i proclaimed, "i thought you had GOOD news." as greg should have been, he was irritated with that statement. but in greg style, he couldn't stay mad for long and nor could i.

how i met cap'n greg...

greg lived next door to me in auburn. i was in apartment 6, he in apartment 5. i lived in this apartment for a year and a half before greg moved in with my loud, sometimes obnoxious, but friendly neighbor. i didnt even know greg lived in apartment 5 for a few months despite the fact that we shared a wall and both front and back porches. 

our first encounter was on the back deck when i was taking sunny out to potty. greg was sitting in a chair reading a book without a shirt on. we did the introductions and i thought he was mocking my southern accent. turns out... thats how he really talks.

for another year, we did the usual "hellos" and a story about how his grandmother thinks she personally knows scott peterson (because she watches the news so much; she refers to him by scott) followed by a few silly facebook messages.

then late one night, about 2 years ago, i walked past his window while taking sunny out and witnessed a horrifying sight. greg was drinking milk FROM THE CARTON. (if you didnt know, im super weird about milk... that could be a post in itself) so, i took it upon myself to open the back door (letting sunny run inside) and yell at him about drinking milk from the carton. we then watched a bootleg smiths concert on dvd while i made some ridiculous comments about expensive purses and "livin' it like it is."

the next day, he texted me to come over for breakfast (at noon, which i had already eaten breakfast) and we ate eggs and french toast (wheat bread) and drank coffee. 

our first official date wasnt until over a month later when we went to the hank williams museum in montgomery followed by dinner at carrabas and a walk into the tuskegee forest.

greg probably has a different version of the story... but this is the official one.

it did snow after all!

i got a whopping 4 day weekend! hooray!

sunny loves the snow. she gets so excited...

  

and then there was a BEAUTIFUL sunset...

for v-day... since my valentine couldnt be in town, i threw a dinner party for my "single ladies." we had french onion soup with grilled cheese sandwiches, chocolate covered strawberries, poundcake with ice cream and topped with more strawberries. 

  

i also gave them valentines...

  

and made up a game for us to play.

 

i had a lot of fun doing it all and i think they enjoyed it as well.
